Zelina Vega is having a breakout 2023, starting with her performance in the women’s Royal Rumble in January, continuing with her WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship match at Backlash in Puerto Rico, and most recently, competing in the women’s Money In The Bank match. While the female face of the LWO was unsuccessful in each of those efforts, the crowd’s reaction to her for each moment has seemingly grown louder and louder.
On the horizon will no doubt be more opportunities for Vega and the rest of the LWO, and one of the obstacles in her way could be WWE Women’s Champion Asuka. The firey and colorful WWE star won her title at Night of Champions earlier this year in a surprise upset over former champion Bianca Beliar. The two will face off in a rematch tonight on WWE Smackdown, and if Asuka is able to retain, she’ll be looking for fresh competition on the other side.
In an exclusive Haus of Wrestling interview, recorded at the WWE Money In The Bank media junket, I asked Vega for her thoughts on Asuka and her new Joker-inspired presentation.
“I love it,” she said. “And the thing is, of course, I’m very big on cosplay and anything that comes with presentation, how you look, and how that can completely take over your personality. And I feel that she’s got to a whole new level, and she’s delved into a whole different side of herself. And as crazy as it is, and as I don’t really love the mist at all, because my god, I would fear for my life if I got that in my eyes. But it’s definitely really cool, for sure.”
While not announced, Vega will likely appear alongside the LWO on tonight’s episode of WWE Smackdown.
