WWE Says Rey Mysterio Out Of Action With ‘Severe Whiplash’

As announced by Michael Cole on tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Rey Mysterio is dealing with “severe whiplash” that is keeping him out of action. According to Cole, Mysterio is recovering at home and is currently considered “day-to-day.” Following last week’s WWE SmackDown, there was uncertainty as to whether or not Mysterio suffered an actual injury in his match against Santos Escobar or if it was part of the current storyline.

Haus of Wrestling was told that the spot last week on Smackdown where Mysterio suffered a “legit” concussion occurred when he caught Escobar in midair, who was doing a plancha from the top rope. He was tested last week as a precautionary measure, and it is possible, but not confirmed, that he is genuinely suffering from severe whiplash.

As of now, Mysterio is set to appear on next week’s WWE NXT, where he will accompany fellow luchador Dragon Lee as he challenges Mysterio’s son, Dominik, for the NXT North American Championship. Mysterio’s appearance was announced after last week’s injury, indicating that his status won’t affect Tuesday’s episode of NXT. The match will be Dominik’s fourth defense of the North American Championship, which he won from Wes Lee on July 18.
