Rey Fenix Possibly Injured At AEW WrestleDream

The next challengers for the AEW World Tag Team Championship were decided tonight on AEW WrestleDream in a four-way tag team match, with the Young Bucks winning to become the new number-one contenders. However, just minutes into the match, AEW International Champion Rey Fenix was seemingly injured, with doctors seen attending to the wrestler’s shoulder by fans in attendance. After Fenix was escorted to the back by medical staff, Penta El Zero Miedo continued on alone throughout the rest of the contest. In addition to the Young Bucks and Lucha Brothers, the match included the Gunn Club as well as the recent pairing of Orange Cassidy and Hook, joining the three sets of brothers.

Fenix captured the AEW International Championship just a few weeks back when then-champion Jon Moxley incurred a concussion during their match at AEW Grand Slam, causing a change on the fly. Depending on the severity of Fenix’s injury, it’s possible Tony Khan will decide to vacate the title, which has become something of the workhorse belt for the promotion since its inception.

Before he was apparently injured, tonight’s match included a memorable showdown between Fenix and former AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy. The Gunn brothers got a spotlight as well, with Colten Gunn attempting to allow his brother Austin to pin him for a victory, which official Paul Turner did not accept. Once tagged in, Hook unleashed a flurry of punches on Matt Jackson before the two traded a series of Northern Lights suplexes, with Cassidy and Nick Jackson getting involved as well. After plenty of action featuring all four teams, some creative offense on the part of the Young Bucks resulted in a victory over Penta.

With FTR having been very adamant about regularly defending the AEW World Tag Team titles in recent weeks, it likely won’t be long before they get in the ring with the Young Bucks for another rematch – assuming they defeat Aussie Open in their title defense later tonight. The last time FTR and the Young Bucks shared the ring was quite recently, at AEW All In on August 27, with Harwood and Wheeler walking away victorious that time around.
