Mercedes Mone Hits Out At Fan Over WWE Departure Rumours

On May 17th 2022, then-WWE Women’s Tag Team champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out during a live broadcast of Raw. Both women were stripped of their titles and suspended indefinitely, though both eventually ended up leaving the company altogether. Banks went on to debut at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 this past year and has since become a featured attraction of both STARDOM and New Japan as Mercedes Mone, whilst Naomi debuted in IMPACT Wrestling as Trinity this past April and has since become the promotion’s Knockouts World Champion.

At the time of Mone’s WWE exit, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Mone wanted similar pay to the likes of Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch but the company is said to have offered her a figure nowhere close to that. Creative issues are also rumored to have played a part in her departure as a supposed creative disagreement with Vince McMahon was reported to be the reason why Mone walked out of Raw back in May 2022.

Now, Mone has addressed those rumors directly in a new social media video. The former IWGP Women’s Champion was a guest at New York ComicCon last week and video footage of a fan asking about her WWE exit has since emerged on X. In the video, the fan can be heard asking Mone how she’s been treated in NJPW after exiting WWE due to creative issues, leading Mone to hit back with “is that the reason?”

The two are then seen getting into a somewhat heated debate after the fan proceeded to ask what the real reason for her exit was. Mone questioned why she would tell him before sarcastically encouraging him to “keep reading your fiction books.”
