It was bound to happen, but now it has become official: Brock Lesnar has accepted Cody Rhodes’ challenge for one more match. Cody vs. Brock III is happening at WWE Summerslam, and while Rhodes got what he wanted, he may have paid the price for it.
WWE Raw is taking place tonight in Atlanta, Georgia, Rhodes’ hometown, and, along with having an arena filled with friendly fans, some of his family was sitting in the front row. The American Nightmare got emotional as he pointed out his mom and offered her a few flattering anecdotes. While speaking about his family, Rhodes brought up his father’s classic ‘Hard Times’ promo and said it would be Lesnar’s turn to experience some hard times of his own.
As he made that claim, Lesnar’s music hit, and Cody made a beeline up the entrance ramp. The second-generation star rushed backstage and, according to Corey Graves on commentary, “walked right into The Beast’s trap.” Lesnar then beat Cody Rhodes down from the top of the entrance ramp to the ringside area.
From there, the former UFC star picked up The Son of The Son of A Plumber, made eye contact with his terrified mother mere feet away, and delivered an F5 to her baby boy. Lesnar then applied the Kimura Lock, trying again to break Cody’s arm before finally giving Cody what he wanted.
“Challenge accepted,” Lesnar screamed. “I’ll see you at Summerslam, b*tch.”
Summerslam goes down Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The premium live event also looks to feature WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins in a WWE Money In The Bank rematch against The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor. The two men were featured in a sit-down vignette tonight on WWE Raw, paving the way for a collision between long-time rivals.
