Zoey Stark: ‘Women’s Wrestling Is Doing Great Right Now’ – Exclusive

This year’s WWE SummerSlam is packed with big matches, but the lack of some of WWE’s biggest female stars on the card is something many fans have taken note of. Notably, Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus, who have been in a program for months, were reportedly cut from the card to keep the show as tight as possible. WWE teased fans that the big singles match would go down this past Monday night on Raw, but moments after the bell rang, Zoey Stark, who has been working as Stratus’ muscle, hit the ring and beat down Lynch, resulting in a quick disqualification.

At the WWE SummerSlam media junket, I had a chance to speak with Stark about Lynch and Stratus being left out of the biggest party of the summer.

“You know, I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason,” she began. “Hunter and Vince, they’re both smart guys, you know? There’s a reason why they’re not on SummerSlam right now. Right? So, when you do see that match with Becky and Trish, it will be well worth the wait. Just know that.

“So, it’s okay. It’s fine. Guys. Chill out. Okay? Women’s wrestling is doing great right now. Right? Yeah, we have a lot of amazing talent. We have Rhea Ripley, me, of course, Trish Stratus, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, and Bianca Belair. You go down the list. We’re good.”

Of the eight matches announced for tonight’s premium live event, two of them will feature female talents. Shayna Baszler will look to brutalize her former friend Ronda Rousey in an MMA Rules match that could serve as Rousey’s last bout with the promotion for a while. Also, Asuka will defend her WWE Women’s Championship in a triple-threat match against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair.
