Becky Lynch Captures WWE NXT Women’s Championship

Last Tuesday night, Tiffany Stratton retained her WWE NXT Women’s Championship with a win over Kiana James. Following the match, WWE Raw star Becky Lynch popped up on the big screen in the arena to deliver a surprise address to Stratton. The Man spoke about all the gold that she has claimed in her time with WWE but noted she had yet to capture the NXT Women’s Championship. So, she laid down a challenge to Buff Barbie for her title on next week’s show.

In the main event of last night’s episode of WWE NXT, Lynch was successful in her quest, as she was able to defeat Stratton for the WWE NXT Women’s Championship. Lynch has now held the WWE Raw, Smackdown, and NXT Women’s Championship, on top of a run as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Lita. This makes her WWE’s sixth female Triple Crown Champion and sixth female Grand Slam Champion. She is also a WWE Women’s Royal Rumble matchwinner and three-time WWE Year-End award recipient.

Stratton captured the WWE NXT Women’s Championship in a tournament following the former champion, Indi Hartwell, vacating the title once she was drafted to the main roster. The finals took place at WWE NXT Battleground in May and saw Stratton defeat Lyra Valkyrie to capture her first WWE gold. Stratton held onto the title for 107 days and notably feuded with Chase U’s Thea Hail during her reign.

Lynch is now the second main roster WWE star to get their hands on NXT gold this year. The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio took control of the WWE NXT North American Championship back in July, defeating former title holder Wes Lee. Lee and Mustafa Ali faced off in a number-one contender match for the WWE NXT North American Championship last week, with special referee Mysterio granting Ali the victory. Mysterio and Ali are scheduled to face off at WWE NXT No Mercy later this month, while Lee looks to be done with the yellow and black brand after quitting on last night’s show.
