Roman Reigns Announced For Title Match Against WWE Raw Star

Earlier this year, at the WWE Elimination Chamber premium live event, Sami Zayn battled Roman Reigns in the main event for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The stakes could not have been higher for Zayn, who had been battling with The Bloodline following his falling out with the group. Not only was the match the main event and for WWE’s top prize, but it also took place in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Breaking the hearts of everyone in attendance, Zayn failed to defeat Reigns, who would go on to defeat Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 39, as well.

Fortunately for Zayn and his many devoted fans, the T-Mobile Arena has released the following announcement in regard to the WWE Supershow they will be hosting on October 14.

“Just Announced: Undisputed @WWE Universal Champion @WWERomanReigns returns to T-Mobile Center!” they wrote on social media. “Come see the @wwe SuperShow Live TRIPLE MAIN EVENT on Oct. 14. @WWERomanReigns vs. @SamiZayn battle for the UNDISPUTED WWE UNIVERSAL Championship.”

While not common for WWE’s top title to change hands at an untelevised live event, it has happened in the past. Perhaps most notably in November 1994 when WWE Hall of Fame inductee Diesel, aka Kevin Nash, defeated Bob Backlund at a WWE house show held at Madison Square Garden. The match was exceptionally brief and featured Diesel defeating Backlund in just eight seconds with a jackknife powerbomb. The title change set up a program between Diesel and Bret Hart, leading to a match at the Royal Rumble, which ended in a draw after interference.

Reigns has been off TV since his WWE SummerSlam main event win over Jey Uso and is expected back soon in order to build to his next big defense at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Considering the huge reaction Zayn received at the last WWE premium live event in Saudi Arabia, Night Of Champions, it is possible this Supershow match could be a tune-up for a much bigger rematch a few weeks later.

It is worth noting that Zayn is a WWE Raw star, and it would be unusual for him to battle for Smackdown’s top male title. Hypothetically, if Zayn were to defeat Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, it would put both of WWE’s top male titles on the same brand.

Haus of Wrestling has partnered with Inside The Ropes to present An Afternoon With Kevin Nash And Sean Waltman on November 25 at Joe’s Live in Rosemont, IL, ten minutes from the All-State Arena. Tickets are now available at JoesLiveRosemont.com.
