Roman Reigns Retains Undisputed WWE Title At WrestleMania 39

Against all odds, Roman Reigns was able to pull off the victory in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 39, retaining his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Cody Rhodes was the first man down WrestleMania’s long entrance ramp. He wore his typical red, white, and blue attire, complete with angel wings down his back. Out next was Reigns who, unlike Rhodes, did not come alone. The Tribal Chief was joined by his “wise man” Paul Heyman and enforcer, Solo Sikoa, who was draped with the usual black towel over his head.

As the match got underway, the two battled back and forth in the middle of the ring without either making any meaningful headway. Seeing his cousin struggling, while the referee’s back was turned, Sikoa went under the ring, grabbed a chair, and hit Cody in the ribs. The first of two interferences from the youngest Bloodline member, the second of which saw him ejected from ringside after a stiff shot with Cody’s own weight belt.

With Sikoa out of the picture, Reigns was back to battling Rhodes on his own until yet more backup made their way to the ring to help him. The Usos came through the crowd, this time while the referee was down, and delivered dual superkicks to the chin of Rhodes before dropping him with a 1D. It wasn’t long before Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens ran to the aide of Reigns, making short work of The Usos before leveling Reigns with their respective finishers. The Usos then shot in to battle off the new tag champs, once again leaving Reigns and Rhodes alone to fight.

Both men began dropping each other with big finishing moves, only to kick out each time, to bigger and bigger pops from the crowd. Just as Rhodes seemed to have things under control, dropping Reigns with back-to-back Cross Rhodes, Heyman popped up on the ring apron for the distraction, allowing Sikoa to sneak back into the match to drill Rhodes with a Samoan Spilke, allowing Reigns the chance to hit his spear for the win.

The crowd was stunned as Reigns retained and took off up the ramp. Following the show, both participated in a post-show press conference where they lauded the win and the multiple big-name opponents that Reigns has defeated over the past few years. It was also at this time that I asked them about the reported WWE sale to Endeavor that may go down tomorrow. They didn’t have much to say on the issue but Heyman was quick to note that I’m always causing trouble before Reigns mentioned my prolific improvisational skills.
