Big Update On John Cena And His Future As Peacemaker In DCU

John Cena has found renewed life in WWE, and maybe not so coincidentally because he has time on his hands due to the ongoing SAG/AFTRA strike. Prior to jaw-jacking with Grayson Waller and sharing a hug with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on WWE Friday Night Smackdown, Cena was one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. This year alone, Cena has appeared in five major motion pictures, including Fast X, Barbie, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, where he voiced Rocksteady.

Cena’s most popular on-screen character is probably Peacemaker, the juvenile, gun-toting superhero from the DC Universe. Cena made his debut as the iconic comic book character in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and reprised the role for an eight-episode Max series. Earlier this year, James Gunn, who now heads up the DCU, confirmed plans for Peacemaker to return but gave no further insight beyond that.

In a Threads post, Gunn gave an update on who will play three pivotal DCU going forward, including Peacemaker.

“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker,” he wrote.

Any Peacemaker plans will have to wait for the time being due to the aforementioned SAG/AFTRA strike. There is some good news in Hollywood when it comes to production, as the WGA strike came to an end earlier this week. If the actor’s union and producers can come to an agreement soon, that would pave the way for Cena to get back to work outside of the WWE Universe. Currently, his IMDB page lists him for two projects in pre-production: The Janson Directive and Grand Death Lotto.
