The men’s WWE Royal Rumble is in full swing, and the fourth entrant is none other than Andrade El Idolo. El Idolo previously wrestled for WWE from 2015 until 2021. Upon his release, he signed with AEW, where he has been performing since. During his time in AEW, he failed to capture any gold and ended his tenure being managed by CJ Perry. His final AEW match saw him lose to Perry’s husband, Miro, at Worlds End.
The crowd greeted him warmly, chanting “Welcome Back” once he was in the ring. During his time in WWE, he captured the WWE NXT Championship as well as the WWE United States Championship. He was largely managed by Zelina Vegan during his run, but due to her association with the LWO, which Andrade is not a part of, at least not yet, it is unlikely they will be paired together again.
Much like his AEW run, El Idolo came to the ring wearing a skull mask covering his face before removing it slowly. He is the husband of currently injured WWE star Charlotte Flair, who reportedly pushed for him to return to WWE. In turn, El Idolo is said to have pushed Tony Khan and AEW to sign his father-in-law Ric Flair to a deal, which they did.
Earlier tonight, Bayley won the women’s WWE Royal Rumble match. She will now have the choice to face WWE World Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley or WWE Women’s Champion and fellow Damage CTRL stablemate IYO SKY at WWE WrestleMania 40.
