Major WWE SmackDown Update On Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns

WWE has just announced on social media that the 2024 Men’s WWE Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes, will come face-to-face with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns tonight on WWE SmackDown.

“TONIGHT on #SmackDown: @WWERomanReigns and @CodyRhodes come face-to-face,” the WWE account wrote. “8/7c on @FOXTV

It is possible this was a last-minute addition to the card, as earlier today, Rhodes was listed on WWE.com as appearing on the show, but the site fell short of announcing a face-to-face encounter with Reigns. Here is the currently advertised announcement from WWE’s official site about Rhodes’ appearance tonight on WWE SmackDown:

2024 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes will be at SmackDown to discuss his historic victory as well as what’s on his mind following an explosive encounter with World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins on Raw.

The American Nightmare seemed determined to challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a rematch from their main event match at WrestleMania 39, but Rollins threw a wrench into that idea by daring Rhodes to challenge him instead.

Coming out of the WWE Royal Rumble, all signs pointed toward Rhodes once against challenging Reigns, likely in the WWE WrestleMania 40 Night Two main event. This past Monday night on WWE Raw, however, The American Nightmare was confronted by WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins, who tried to convince Rhodes to challenge him instead.

“Do you want the Hollywood title?” Rollins said. “The Hulk Hogan title? The one for posers and frauds? The title for people who politic their way to the top? Or do you want the Dusty Rhodes title? Do you want the workhorse championship? The blue-collar championship? Because that’s what the World Heavyweight Championship means. It is about who is the very best between these ropes.

“I could ask Dusty, you know, I could say which title would Dusty rather have? But we both know the answer to that, and the truth is it doesn’t really matter because it’s not about him. It hasn’t been about him for a long time. This is about you. This is about you and your decision.”

Rhodes responded to Rollins by letting him know he’d think about it.
