Trick Williams Captures NXT North American Championship

Nearly three months on from winning his very first singles championship in WWE, Dominik Mysterio has lost the NXT North American Championship. The Judgement Day member was dethroned by Trick Williams at NXT No Mercy in a match officiated by one of Mysterio’s biggest NXT rivals, Dragon Lee. Williams became #1 contender by winning a fatal 4-way match on this week’s NXT over Lee, Axiom and Tyler Bate.

At the Premium Live Event, Williams got a visual pin over Mysterio but Dragon Lee had been taken down and was unable to see the pin. Mysterio took advantage, throwing Williams into the barricade and grabbing his title in an attempt to take out his challenger for good. Williams managed to dodge and hit Mysterio with a running knee, covering him for the win as Lee returned to his feet.

This marks Trick Williams’ first championship win in his short WWE career so far. The 29-year-old made his NXT debut just over two years ago and has mostly served as a manager to now-NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. Williams was not Mysterio’s originally planned challenger for No Mercy, however. Mustafa Ali was announced to be challenging for the North American title, but his WWE release reportedly caught NXT officials by surprise – hence the sudden change of plans earlier this week.
