Wes Lee Sheds Tears Announcing Injury; Change Made To WWE NXT Deadline

On last week’s episode of WWE NXT, Wes Lee won a huge victory over three of WWE’s top talents: Cameron Grimes, Johnny Gargano, and Bronson Reed. The win was made even more impressive by the stakes at hand, as he earned a shot at the WWE NXT North American Championship at Deadline this Saturday night on Peacock. The current titleholder, Dominik Mysterio, initially won the championship in July with a victory over Lee. He is now in his second title reign.

On tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, Lee delivered some unfortunate news to the fans: He will require surgery and is unsure how long he will be out of action.

The young star had tears running down his face as he relayed his pain, and the fans responded with adulation. He also clearly did not see this as a goodbye, as he believes he is far from done. WWE issued the following statement on X:

“BREAKING: Due to an injury, @WesLee_WWE will be unable to compete this Saturday at #NXTDeadline and will be out indefinitely.”

Before he was able to leave the ring to begin his rehabilitation process, Dominik interrupted. The Judgment Day member made fun of Lee and his injury before noting he planned to take WWE NXT Deadline off to spend more time with his “Mami” Rhea Ripley. He also claimed that Lee will be undergoing back surgery.

That’s when Lee dropped a bombshell on Dominik and threw to a video featuring his famous father, Rey. Rey told his son he would be in the corner of his new challenger at Deadline, Dragon Lee. Interestingly, Dragon Lee is officially a SmackDown star, so the match will see two main roster stars competing for an NXT Championship.

Shawn Michaels will hold his WWE NXT Deadline media call this Thursday afternoon. I will be on the call, and we expect this last-minute change to be addressed. Keep your eyes on our site and X account for highlights from the call.
