Tonight’s episode of NXT Deadline featured Dominik Mysterio defending his North American Championship against Dragon Lee, with Rey Mysterio’s support. The match was a last-minute addition to the premium live event, as Wes Lee tearfully announced that he was injured this past Tuesday night. Due to that injury, Wes had to be pulled from the match, and Dragon, who had faced Dominik in the past, stepped into the picture. Ultimately, Dragon picked up the win over Dominik tonight and celebrated the victory with the former champion’s father, sitting at the commentary booth.
This is the end of Dominik’s second reign with the NXT North American Championship. Dominik briefly dropped the title to Trick Williams, who won it at NXT No Mercy in September but quickly won it back days later on a Tuesday night episode of NXT. With gold no longer around his waist, he and JD McDonaugh are the only non-champions in The Judgment Day.
Tonight’s NXT Deadline started with CM Punk gracing the brand for the first time. His brief segment featured him joking with Shawn Michaels and taking a selfie, before teasing that he may sign with the NXT brand.
