Daniel Garcia Defends Tony Khan’s Controversial Twitter Posts

Daniel Garcia is one of AEW’s hottest homegrown stars. Alongside Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, MJF, and other young talents in the promotion, he has helped set the tone for the product. Garcia is also a talent that AEW President Tony Khan seems to have taken a particular shine to. In a viral video moment from last year, Khan could be seen doing Garcia’s popular hip-thrusting dance move up and down the AEW ramp for fans. Khan also brought Garcia out for the Worlds End press conference just a few weeks ago.

Khan, for his part, is never shy about praising his talent while taking occasional shots at some of his competitors. Most recently, Khan took issue with Jinder Mahal being granted a WWE World Heavyweight Championship after not wrestling on TV for nearly a year. In his opinion, someone like FTW Champion HOOK was more deserving of their AEW World Championship opportunity based on his 28-1 record.

In an interview with Adrian Hernandez, Garcia gave his thoughts on Khan’s eye-raising posts on social media.

“A lot of people don’t like what Tony says on Twitter, but I look at it like it’s his company, first and foremost,” he stated. “He can do whatever he wants. He’s the one putting the money behind this company. He’s paying all our salaries, that’s on him. But it’s great to know that you have somebody willing to put themselves out there and that’s willing to fight for his team. That’s what I love most about it. He says whatever he wants because he really believes in us and knows that we can back it up.”

Since the release of Hernandez’s interview with Garcia, Khan has double-downed on the credibility of his championship contenders. Going forward, the AEW rankings will be returning, and number-one contenders will largely be determined by their win and loss records.
