Cash Wheeler Headed To Trial Over Aggravated Assault Charge

Last August, Cash Wheeler was arrested on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. A subsequent police report alleged that Wheeler was driving recklessly on an interstate highway and pointed a handgun at another driver while staring at them strongly, causing the other driver to fear for their life. Wheeler was later released from custody with a bond of $2,500 and was ordered to hand over all his firearms to the Orlando authorities as well as to avoid contact with the alleged victim.

Despite his arrest, Wheeler went on to compete at All In just weeks later where he and Dax Harwood retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks. Throughout the match, the Wembley Stadium crowd could be heard chanting “Wheeler’s got a gun” on several occasions in reference to the incident.

News on the case has been quiet until earlier this month when prosecutors scheduled a new hearing which occurred yesterday morning. Per Orange County Clerk court records, Wheeler did not attend the hearing in person, instead entering a plea of non-guilty through his attorney, but was arraigned on the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. A trial for the case has now been set for May 20th in addition to a pre-trial hearing on the 7th, the latter of which Wheeler has been ordered to attend by the court.

Aggravated assault with a firearm is considered a third-degree felony in Florida. If Wheeler is convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison, five years probation, and a $5000 fine as a first-time offender.

Since losing the AEW World Tag Team Championship to Big Bill and Ricky Starks last October, Wheeler and his long-time tag partner Dax Harwood have primarily featured on AEW Collision. This past Saturday, they emerged victorious alongside Daniel Garcia in a six-man tag team match over Christian Cage, Killswitch, and Nick Wayne of The Patriarchy. On tonight’s AEW Dynamite, the duo are set to face Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli of the Blackpool Combat Club.
